Youth Forum Meeting: Wednesday 7th November 2018

Youth Forum Meeting: Wednesday 7th November 2018

Each school that attends the Youth Forum tells the other schools a little about what they have been doing.

Tobi and Ruby told the Forum that we became an Academy on 1st November and are now part of the Orwell Multi Academy Trust, or OMAT for short. They told the Forum that this has not made a lot of difference to the school as the school name and uniform were not changing.

They also told the Forum that they have already had some interesting sports activities this term which included a Martial Arts afternoon with Premier Sports, a football tournament and the Paarlauf.  They also mentioned that there are after school gymnastics and fencing clubs this term.

Tobi and Ruby also spoke to the Forum about an exciting project that Year 3 and 4 pupils had been involved in which made them TV stars! They were part of a beach clean in Felixstowe which was a joint venture with the Marine Conservation Society, Sky Ocean Rescue and Ipswich Town Football Club. First the children took part in a workshop about caring for their local environment. The Ipswich Town Football Club mascot also turned up at this workshop! The children then walked to the beach and were joined by three Ipswich Town players who helped with the litter pick. All this was filmed by Sky and some of the children were interviewed. This was shown on Sky TV for everyone to see. This was a fantastic opportunity for the children to become involved in the wider community.

Finally the Year 5 children went to a CoSpace Rescue taster day at BT in Martlesham with other primary schools.  They learnt to code and programme a virtual reconnaissance robot which was then able to pick up and deposit objects in designated places. A team from Grange were victorious and are now on the BT CoSpace Rescue Winners Wall of Fame Team!
