Reception Robins

Welcome to Reception  Robins

Hello Reception Robins!

I am very excited to be teaching you this year and I am looking forward to doing lots of fun activities and learning new things. In our first term, we will be looking at the topics ‘All about Me’ and ‘Transport’.

On a Tuesday morning, Mrs Cracknell and Mrs Leitch will be working with the Robins and will be teaching RE and PE.  Please see the Robins Diary below for all the important dates you need to know.

PE:

On Tuesday mornings, Mrs Leitch will be taking the children outside for PE. It would be great if you could come into school in your PE kit on a Thursday. I would recommend tracksuit bottoms, tee shirt and trainers as the weather begins to get colder.

Please also provide a spare change of clothes in case of accidents. These need to be in a named plastic bag that can be left on their peg.

Reading:

In Reception, we love reading and we really like to give stickers and prizes when you read lots at home. We would like you to read at least 3 times a week at home. Please record these reads in your reading record. If you read more than this, you are a reading superstar! All children will be sent home with a reading book and reading record. Please ensure that this is all that is brought to school in bookbags. Please do not bring anything in from home e.g toys, teddies etc.

Book bags are being provided by the PTA and I will provide more information about this in the near future.

Times of the school day:

8:45am - Drop Off

3:15pm - Pick Up

Please remember to enter the school site from the front entrance on Grange Road and leave via the pedestrian entrance at the side of the school.

Lunch Menus:

Lunch menus can be found on the Parents tab of the school website, under School Dinners: Menus, Payment, Free School Meals. If you would prefer your child to have a packed lunch, please provide this in a wipe clean bag and try to wrap items in paper if possible.

Tapestry:

In Reception, we are always busy learning lots of new things and having lots of fun. We like to share this with parents/carers at home. To do this, we use Tapestry. Please ensure that you have activated your account, downloaded the Tapestry app on your phone and set up notifications so you can see the fun we are having at school. I also love it when you upload observations from home. We love to see what fun you get up to at the weekends, so please remember to upload this to Tapestry too!

As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to chat to me at the beginning or end of the school day or send me a message on Tapestry.

Thank you,

Miss Steele :)

Robins Diary

  • PE - Tuesday - (please make sure your child comes to school with their PE kit in a named bag. This needs to be navy shorts, white tee shirt and trainers. For the colder months, please provide tracksuit bottoms.)
  • Outdoor Learning  - Friday (alternate half terms) (Please make sure your child comes to school in old clothes and wellies)

Talk Homework

In Reception, we are keen to develop speaking and listening skills. We hold regular circle times to encourage children to speak in full sentences and communicate their ideas clearly. During the term, your child will come home with some talk homework  which will include a picture and some questions to talk about. It would be great if you could talk about the image and write down anything talked about. All we ask is that you sign the page to say that you have talked about the picture. This will help the children to develop their vocabulary and speaking skills which are vital in their communication and language development.

Class Dojo

At Grange, we make use of Class Dojo to communicate with parents and give children Dojo points for showing our school values.

The children love collecting Dojo's and are awarded with a certificate when they have collected 50, 100 and 200 Dojos.

As parents, you can use Class Dojo to communicate with me and ask any questions you may have. I regularly update the Class Story with photos of the children's learning and the fun things we are getting up to at school! Please make sure you activate your Dojo account so you can keep up to date with all the fantastic learning we do in Reception!
